Standard 6

The Professional Knowledge category displays my knowledge regarding social justice, diversity, and student identity and how I can enhance student opportunities in an ELA classroom.

Standard VI

The sixth standard demonstrates my knowledge of educational theories and research regarding diversity, equity, and student inclusion.

The first element displays how I plan and implement teaching for social justice in ELA curriculum.

  • The first evidence is Project RESPECT which displays a pre-eflection of how I will teach for social justice, my observations of my placement's surrounding community, and how I implemented what I have learned into my student teaching.

  • The second evidence is a Community Inquiry video project that I created in EDSE 500: Equity and Community Engagement. I volunteered during an after school program in a small charter school for five weeks. I conducted a case study on the surrounding rural community in the Corridor of Shame on how it affects the school community in regard to equity.

  • The third evidence are lessons plans from a unit that I created along with my partner to teach for social justice. We created a unit on the Diary of Anne Frank to discuss the dangers of antisemitism and racism through close readings, discussions, and social action projec.t

The second element of this third standard addresses how I used theory and research to plan and implement lessons that respond to students' identities and community.

  • The first evidence s Project RESPECT which displays a pre-reflection of how I will teach for social justice, my observations of my placement's surrounding community, and how I implemented what I have learned from theory and data into my student teaching.

Standard VII

The seventh standard showcases how I engage with student lives and engage in professional development to enhance my teaching practice.

The first element displays how I modeled ethical and professional practices throughout my practicums and internships.

  • The second and third pieces of evidence display my mid-semester and final reflections during my EDSE 776B internship.  In both reflections, I discuss my challenges, questions, and successes in my internships.

The second element displays how I reflect on a variety of experiences within the classroom to grow in my leadership skills as a teacher leader.

  • The first evidence is a reflection for Reader's Profile. I reflect on my triumphs and challenges in how engaged my students with literacy.

  • The second evidence is final reflections during my EDSE 776B internship.  I reflect on my professionalism throughout my internship and how it has impacted me as an educator.
